Choosing your kit
How do I know which kit is right for me?
Most Australian backyards work with the Standard Kit, it comes with the netting plus 3 J-brackets. If you've got a longer perimeter run, complex corners, or need more J-bracket coverage, the Complete Kit gives you 6 brackets. The Essential Kit is for owners who already have a way to mount netting at height, for example, between a roof and a fence, or for shorter custom installs.
What's the difference between the kits?
All three include the same 4m × 10m netting and accessories. The Essential Kit ships with no J-brackets for $189. The Standard Kit includes 3 J-brackets, and costs $240. The Complete Kit includes 6 J-brackets for $289 and is shipped free.
Will this work on my fence?
Yes, in most cases. The kit installs on timber paling, brick, render, or hardwood. The J-brackets attach to your fence or wall. The netting tensions over the top. If your fence is unusually short, very tall, or has gaps wider than 100mm at the base, use the pull-ties to secure the net further.
Can I install on a roof, gate, wall or fence?
Yes. The Essential Kit specifically suits roof-to-fence barriers because it is unlikely you'll need the J-brackets in that situation. For gates, walls and fences, you'll most likely need the flexibility the J-brackets give you in the installation. The netting can be secured to allow gate movement. For brick, stone or rendered walls, use the supplied wall plugs.
What if my install requires more than 10m of netting?
One kit covers 10 metres. For longer perimeters, you can order multiple kits. We can combine shipping if you contact us at hello@justforcats.shop before purchase so you can save.
The installation
Do you have an install guide?
We have a very basic guide, but because every situation is vastly different, our guide is just that - a very broad guide. Unfortunately, we cannot cater for every possible way you could install the netting to suit your needs. You can download the guide here
How long does it take to install?
Most installs take 3-5 hours for a 10m piece of netting. Plan to get it done in an afternoon. The more people you have to help, the faster it tends to go.
What tools do I need?
A power drill is the only essential tool you'll need. Everything else (screws, wall plugs, pull-ties, rope) comes with the kit.
Can I install it by myself?
Yes, the kit is designed for one person with basic DIY skills. A second pair of hands is definitely recommended though, particularly when securing the netting along longer runs. You can see this in the install video: two hands make it faster!
What if I have never used a power drill?
The install is genuinely beginner-friendly. You're drilling pilot holes for screws into fence posts or wall plugs into masonry, but if you're nervous, ask a handy neighbour or friend / family member. Or, as a last resort, hire someone on Airtasker.
Will it work on brick, render, or hardwood?
Yes. The supplied wall plugs work for brick and render. For hardwood, you'll need screws. If you've purchased J-brackets, you'll receive wood screws with them.
What about corners and gates?
Corners might need an extra bracket on each side of the corner post. Gates can be netted (the netting flexes enough to allow gate movement.) For complex installs, the Complete Kit's 6 J-brackets give you the flexibility to handle corners and gates. But it is definitely worth planning properly.
Materials and quality
What is nylon-coated steel fibre?
Steel fibre wrapped in a UV-stable, weather-proof nylon coating. The steel provides the strength to resist clawing and chewing, the nylon coating protects the steel from rust and weather. It also protects cats from being scratched or injured by the wire.
Will it rust?
The steel fibres are fully encased in nylon. Provided the netting isn't physically cut or damaged, it won't rust. Our 5-year materials warranty covers rust from normal weather use.
Can it handle the Aussie weather?
Yes, it is designed for it. UV-stable, won't degrade in sun, rain, frost, or extreme temperatures. The coating is weatherproof and the J-brackets are powder-coated steel.
Will my cat damage it?
Once it's installed correctly, most cats will try and find ways to escape. The nylon-coated steel fibre resists clawing, chewing, and pulling. Our own cat Sadie tested it, and gave up. But, cats are persistent. It is worth checking your install every once in a while.
Shipping and delivery
What are your delivery times?
We dispatch from our warehouse within 1-2 business days. Melbourne metro: 2-4 business days. Sydney/Adelaide/Brisbane metro: 3-6 days. Other capital cities: 4-7 days. Regional and remote: 5-10 days. These are standard shipping times. Express shipping tends to deliver a day faster.
Where do you ship?
Australia-wide only. We don't currently ship internationally. If you're an Australian living overseas and want to send a kit to family or friends, email us we'll try and help.
What does shipping cost?
Free shipping on orders over $240 (Complete Kit qualifies; Standard Kit + at least one J-bracket bundle qualifies). Standard shipping rates apply to Essential Kit and Standard Kit on their own calculated at checkout based on your location.
Shipping is free for orders over $240?
Yes. Orders over $240 ship free anywhere in Australia.
What if the product arrives damaged?
Given it is a net and the accessories are made from flexible material, a damaged box is unlikely to mean damaged product. But your delivery is insured, covered by Australia post. If you find your delivery contains product that is unusable, reach out to us.
Warranty and returns
What's the 5-year warranty?
Our nylon-coated steel fibre netting and J-brackets come with a 5-year materials warranty. If they tear, rust, or break down from normal weather within 5 years of purchase, we'll replace them free. Backed by our quality guarantee. If the product is damaged during the install, from cutting or using tools, this voids the warranty.
What's the 30-day money-back guarantee?
If your kit doesn't work for your yard, send it back within 30 days for a full refund. You cover return shipping we cover everything else. No forms, no interrogation.
What if my install doesn't work?
Most installs that don't work (cats escape) are because of gaps. Remember, cats are wily and if you leave any kind of a gap, they'll find it. Sadie did! Email us at hello@justforcats.shop if you've got questions, we'll try to help.
Who do I contact if something is wrong?
Email hello@justforcats.shop. The email comes to one of us, Alyce or Shaun, usually within an hour. Real humans, not a support team.
About us
Who are Alyce and Shaun?
We're a Melbourne couple who created this kit because our cat Sadie kept escaping. We designed the J-brackets, created the netting kit, post the kits, and answer every email ourselves. Read our full story here
Where are you based?
Our warehouse is based in Melbourne's south east.
Do you offer install services?
We don't physically install, Just For Cats is two people working from a small base. We're happy to answer general questions about your kit by email at hello@justforcats.shop. For install help, we've done our best to assist with our installation guide booklet which has some illustrations. You can download it from multiple sections of the website. Alternatively, a friend, neighbour, family member or even hiring someone through a website like Airtasker is a great way to get help.
